After 15 years of smoking on and off (mostly on), and trying everything to quit (including medicine that made me INSANE), I just could not kick it. I was down to just a few cigarettes a day and really wanted to quit, but just could not overcome the panic that would set in the first time something stressful or hard happened after I had gotten rid of all the cigs. I would then walk to the store and get another pack and tell myself I would quit "after this last pack."

I finally realized that my addiction was much more psychological than physical. Sure, it's hard to go through the withdrawals, but my main problem was emotional/psycholgial. So I decided to get hypnotized and it absolutely worked. After one session, I was done. Quitting has never been easier - at least at first. I definitely felt the physical withdrawals for about two days, but even so, the panic and giving in to the panic by walking to the store just wasn't there. I legitimately had no desire to smoke. I just knew I was done smoking. That said, I adid experience a strange sense of not knowing what to do with myself for a while. Cigarettes were the punctuation marks between the main events of my day. Before work. After work. After dinner. Before Bed. Without the smokes, I had a really difficult time transitioning from one thing to the next.

A few weeks after quitting, despite how easy it seemed to quit, I found that I was unhappy. I felt completely unsatisfied with various aspects of my life - my boyfriend, my job, my day-to-day routine, hobbies, etc. Nothing felt satisfactory. I had this constant sense of wanting something but not knowing what it was I wanted, of looking for something and not knowing where to find it, not knowing what I was even looking for. This has been the toughest part by far. I think these feelings were below the panic I used to feel. Smoking filled a void in me, and without smoking, there was just a void. I started engaging in other unhealthy behaviors and feeling some minor depression. Realizing that I was not as happy as I thought I would magically be upon quitting smoking, I decided to go back to my therapist. I have been working through this void for about three months now. This has helped considerably, and I am finally starting to feel like I am coming out the other side into a feeling of fulfillment and wholeness.

So I guess my comment is basically that while I would recommend hypnosis to everyone, it is not just a simple, quick-fix. It makes getting through the initial withdrawal/cravings/panic MUCH easier - seemingly effortless. But afterwards, your demons will still be there and need to be attended to.

I read your article with great interest as I am a hypnotherapist/hypnoanalyst practising in London for 18 years. Smoking like any other oral compulsion can be a complex issue. For some, a session or two of suggestion therapy works a treat. Others respond more to parts work, a neurolinguistic programming technique when used in hypnois. When cigarettes are used as an emotional crutch or as a smoke screen to keep emotions at bay, then hypnoanalysis, the therapy of cause and effect is applied.

I will be writing articles/blogs on smoking and hypnosis in my updated website in the new year. If you are interested, do visit my website: www.adelinekam.com. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

A great article illustrating how stop smoking hypnosis is gaining the recognition it deserves as the most effective way to quit smoking permanently.

I quit smoking in Dublin, Ireland with http://www.StopSmokingFreedom.ie and have never looked back. I'd advise anyone if they have the opportunity to take it!

I think people who are born with the addiction of tobacco, are the lest to succeed in quitting.

As a long term smoker I feel this is one of my problems, not to mention the fact that both my parents were smokers.

I think hypnosis is my only hope ,I've tried everything!

I stopped smoking within 24 hours. Hypnosis really does work if you know what to do. You can find out a ton of stuff about hypnosis and mind control techniques for free. Get the free books from http://www.findsuccessthroughhypnosis.com

A bit shy to go through any hypnotherapy to beat my addiction. Been off smoking for a little over 2 months. Some people say you need strong will power to quit smoking... well I found being stubborn was closer to the truth with me. Plus I forced myself to straight out hate the thought of smoking with extreme prejudice. Found it easier to make ciggys my own public enemy #1. To each their own, I guess. Good luck yall. Together we can kick smoking in the butt.
