I am a 45yr old woman who has suffered with constant "mystery" pain for over 40 years now. From ct scan, mri's, blood work, bone scans, I have been poked and prodded in every orifice of my body, have swallowed every pill imaginable to try and ease the pain. am now taking 14 40mg oxy's per day. tried massage therapy, heat wraps, acupuncture, pain clinic classes (still), Been told by a doctor that I will grow out of it. Been told by a doctor its "all in my head". As I lay in bed some nites in so much pain I cant sleep, I sure wish it was. Generally most of my pain is in my legs, and hips, sometimes the arms. Anyone else having the same problems, I would love to hear about or anyone having suggestions would love to know about that too.

I'm a woman aged 69 from the UK (N Wales) and for the past 33 years have suffered a condition involving serious pain, especially back, hips, legs, abdomen etc.

I've had X rays & scans but all appears normal. The condition began after I underwent horrendous divorce proceedings involving myself & my 2 young daughters having to go into hiding.

This condition has governed my life though I try to be as active as possible between 'bouts'. Since being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 2 years ago the pain has worsened;also the dreadful fatigue. I've always been an outdoorsy person and find the limitations on my physical activity terribly difficult to bear.

Having read this article I wonder if I've been, and still am of course, suffering from Fibromyalgia? I feel eager to try Tai Chi as painkillers are useless and I'm already on a fairly high dose of anti-depressants which do nothing for my physical pain. i would be ecstatic if,at this late date, there is some treatment out there that would enable me to ride my darling ex-racehorse once more. Last time I rode was 4 years ago and my dream is to be in the saddle once more.

To start I live for the past 12 yrs I've had 3 back surgeries, can you feel for me and my pain yet I'm only 34 yrs old. on the L4-L5,S1 labeled as" failed chronic back syndrome" with multiply annoying symptoms and chronic pain everyday I have adjusted my life pain level with minimal or no MEDS, pain management, and stem cell injections nothing has seemed to get me that happy medium, then on top of that painful stressful back mess about 5 months ago things started changing. The pain I have everyday from the Chronic back pain puts me at a max tolerance to where I cant physically or mentally handle any other pain or issues, I am only human! RIGHT? The last 5 months it all feels like I'm crashing DOWN as a mother, a wife and a women! I NEED HELP!! I am exhausted all the time, with not only the" failed chronic back syndrome". The symptoms I describe to you that I experience, NO ONE can diagnose me. No doctor could put a name to the absolute horrific ALL OVER body pain, stiffness, tingling, numbness, weakness, burning, stabbing, throbbing, depression, clicking/popping of all of my bones, sore/tender leg's/back/neck/arms/shoulder's, loss of not only flexibility but balance and coordination, feeling out of it, chronic fatigue, trouble sleeping, bowel issues and headache that I suffer everyday. The pain has also been the worst in my muscles (every muscle).

UGGGG, I HATE MYSELF AND THE WAY I FEEL!! Not to mention the 25pds gained over the last 5months with barley eating or having an appetite to eat!!? WHY? The BEST way to decide the feelings is like I got hit by a "TRUCK"! A BIG ONE! why?

The pain is the worst and i feel that I SHOULD be able to take care of the household, my kids and my husband with all there needs & wants, but I can't. Its sad to have to tell my kids "no" to going outside, or play dates and social things like that since I have no energy and want to stay in hiding away from everybody. The depression has gotten so bad that suicidal thoughts are invading my BRAIN! Its alittle scary for my family and I. My kids, husband and myself are suffering severely.. I have done lots of different blood test and tried lots of medication some of which I continue to take to help take the edge off. Something as simple and innocent as a hug from my son, poking me or my son sitting on my lap puts me in so much pain in my world completely would SPIN and I would cry uncontrollably for hours on end as shock wave after shock wave of this pain ripped/rips through my muscles. The simplest things like GETTING OUT OF BED, on some days almost take an act of God Himself for me to accomplish. We had ENOUGH of the medical professionals not being able to help me ease the pain also had enough with them not even knowing what was causing this pain, had enough of them probably thinking everything I was "complaining of" was ALL IN MY HEAD. I went online numerous times and researched until my eyes could not focus anymore, I'm just getting more depressed and confused. NINA

I'm 23, and have had chronic pain since I was in middle school. Doctors always brushed it off, saying it was "growing pains" or "all in my head". About two years ago, I was given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I felt like that doctor visit was a waste of time. I certainly do believe that fibromyalgia is a real condition, but that was not what was wrong with me. Doctors are quick to throw some label on patients to placate them, so speak up when you feel something is amiss.

That's what I did...and finally got an answer maybe 6 months ago regarding what was actually causing my pain. I have elhers-danlos syndrome. Pretty big difference!

That last step, finding an alternative explanation, just shows that FM is a "trash can" diagnosis -- anything unexplained goes into there.

I was diagnosed with FM/chronic fatigue until a doctor had the inspiration to check me for Vitamin D deficiency after he read an abstract.

For one thing FM has to on both sides .You need to research this.

all of my pain is on my left side also. i think that i also my have fm.

marie of AL 7:27AM June 26, 2010

I am 38yrs young and recently diagnosed with FM. I refuse to accept this diagnosis because I have seen what it does to people. The diagnosis is like a permission slip to be in unrelenting pain that few medications work for that don't have a bunch of side effects to add to the FM. I think with stress reduction and increased physical activity I can beat this. I encourage all of you to do the same. We have to work and live through the pain anyway so why not use the body to heal itself. That is how it was designed.

Iyande of MO 8:44AM June 24, 2010

i have all the pain, and many of the other symptoms of FM, but all the pain is on the left side of my body. its been about 3 yrs now, and 11 doctors later, still no diagnosis. anyone else with similar experience?
