does using a dandruff shampoo (i.e. Head and Shoulders) every day contribute to baldness. I like the shampoo but so many people tell you all kind of things about shampoo, you just don't know what to believe. I have thinning hair and I do like Head and Shoulders shampoo but will stop using it if it causes baldness. Can you give me some help with this issue. Thanks so much!

Dearest Angela H., your article about hair loss is just wonderful. I would like to share you and everybody else my hair situation. I am an almost 66-year-old man and my hair is abundant and really dark to the point that people think I bleach it. Yes, my hair do feature a few gray hairs around but my hair grows normally and now and then I call on the barber shop for a hair cut, although i really like it a little bit long because I am very proud of it. Now the question is, how come I am not bald, say, like my father, who only had hair on the sides and the lower back of his head, or like 90% of fellows my age or even far younguer?

I live in my small Ecuador, and as I recall, when I was about 18, pharmacies used to sell Arovit, in the form of vials full of this oily substance called vitamin 'A'. I used to get an injection once in a while because I wanted to always have a good sight, my liver functioning well, and the rest of benefits. But I never thought about my hair. Unfortunatelly, since a few years back, they no longer have Arovit as an oily injection, just in little solid pills which I don't even pay attention to them.

Secondly since about 3-4 year ago I massage my head with a massager apparattus that has two small balls that do the work, bacause I started to suffer from dizziness. As a side effect, my hair is healthy, very dark, and grows like I were a much younger man. Thanks for your attention.

My father had a normally receding hairline, and when he died in his 90s, he still had a lot of hair. He said he noticed his hair was falling out in his 30s. His barber told him he was washing his hair too often, and suggested he wash it only once a week. Dad said he followed the advice and his premature hair loss was stopped.

I usually wash mine once a day, but something really gentle. I still have lots of hair but think Dad’s advice was sound. I went to a hair restoration place once, told the doctor there what my Dad had told me, which he dismissed as anecdotal. He was kind of arrogant so I never went back.

I have always felt that when in doubt, go with your intuition. If you have a feeling about what is best for your hair, in 50 years you may find that research does bear it out !

no bear grease though :)
