This is a great article, too bad there are so many people who won't find the time to practice it!

It has been proposed (and I believe it) that stress causes 80% of chronic disease. Much of that could be prevented or eliminated by engaging in mindfulness or meditation activities that reduce damaging stress hormones and other unhealthy physiological reactions, and allowing the parasympathetic system, especially the immune system and endocrine system, to help keep you healthy.

Being happy is the opposite of being stressed, and this state allows for fuller and more beneficial functioning of your self-healing capabilities,

Get Happy!

Happiness? What is happiness but a euphoric status floating in the Cosmos? Contentment, however, is something one ca touch, so-to-speak. The truth is that we all are so different and so together individually.

a) Different, because our brains and minds' magnetism sparkle at will and we get a glimpse of it partially during the formative years and somewhat beyond when we hit 11 yrs. old.

b) And yes, togetherness, first because we belong to the same species willy-nilly and second because of similar biological needs so misunderstood and misconstrued that full contentment causing a feeling of happiness is totally derailed so much so, that many confuse the transparent code of ethics with the kind of morality imposed by immoral forces (when one digs behind the surface).

And why such confusion? First, because of total ignorance at all levels. Second, because of strong need and greed that manifest in various shapes or form like artistic talent and/or helping others on the positive side and envy, jealousy, supremacy and the like, on the negative side. There is no "good" or "bad", for they imply judgment and no one has all he pertinent info to be able to judge justly. Hence, an awareness of positive/ negative may be more relevant conducive to priorities how we act and when.

True, being the "animals" we are deep down and even beyond, since a certain discipline was needed to impose by the illuminates that contributed to our present so called civilization. But is it, when we try to grab what others have or impose our will due to misconceptions of what our and their "roots" are all about? Namely, the brainwashing of entire societies in the name of "civilized behavior" imposed by certain doctrines and the greed of the wealthy. Most of us are very rich but not so wealthy, given the variety of needs one or a certain group needs to manifest. "Keeping up with the Johns" is one type of reaction, but forcing the "Johns" out of the way is another and thus the rebelling of one class versus another.

Hence, the consensus for the need of a Government we trust in order to keep things in balance. Alas, even so, the hypocrisy and personal greed have invaded our unconsciousness whereby consciously, it appears normal to subjugate the others whih ever way we can get away with it. For contentment and queasy happiness cannot be bought but earned "the good old way" as the saying goes. Namely, by not doing to others what you don't want to be done to you and by being aware of Humanity as a whole, thus enjoying the pleasure of pleasuring the others and ourselves in the process!

Do the research results really support the conclusion that a wandering mind is an unhappy mind?

When we focus our time and attention on things we like and think are good we feel energized, enthusiastic and excited. When we focus on things we think are bad we feel sad, angry, anxious or dissatisfied.

Our Focus Determines Our Feelings.

How we feel about what we are doing determines our happiness and our levels of attention.

When we are enjoying what we are doing we pay attention to it.

When we don't particularly enjoy what we are doing our mind wanders. See : http://www.happinesshabitnotes.com/2010/11/harvards-unhappiness.html

If you want to be happier the results of our research are shown on: http://HappinessHabit.com and http://Creating-Happiness.com

I know this young lady very well from her teaching pyscholgy and yoga at Stanford. She knows what she is taliking about. Happiness may be elusive but as Abraham Lincoln, who suffered from what was then described as "melancholia" stated "people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be". So follow Dr. Kelly's advice and make up your mind to do those things that make you happy. Your colleagues, friends and significant other will appreciate it.
