Dear Gail,
So sorry to read about your son Eddy. We have a daughter that's a junior and two younger daughters in high school (a senior and a sophomore). I cannot begin to imagine what you and your family are going through. It's very disconcerting that the college cannot figure out how Eddy got meningitis. That's quite scary - how do you prevent the problem if you don't know where it originated? I will talk to my daughters and we will become more educated concerning this. Thanks for posting this to help other moms. Our prayers are with you. God bless.

My 20-year old son, Eddy, died of Type C bacterial meningitis while he was a junior student studying Econ and Finance at the Univ. of Wisconsin in Madison. My husband and I spent 20 years of our lives raising our beautiful son, and he died within 16 hours from meningitis. We had all the routine vaccinations for both of our sons, but at the time we knew nothing about meningitis risk on college campuses. It's real, and this disease can take a life so quickly. We will never know for sure how Eddy contracted the disease while he was a student, and our hearts are broken forever without him. He was such a special young man and blossoming into full bloom. He had just been asked to apply for a Rhodes Scholarship. I hope everyone who reads this article takes the time to educate themselves about this disease and can protect themselves and their loved ones. Gail Bailey
