I'm 21 and I went to the cardiologist for the first time last week. It took my father having two strokes to get me the cardiologist and I wish I wouldn't have waited. Our family has a history of heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My father didn't know about his first stroke until he was sent to the hospital for his second stroke.

Dr. Mordecai Klein, my cardiologist in Plano, TX, is great and says that I should try to visit once a year.

Speaking from personal experience, please don't wait to see a cardiologist. My father recently experienced two strokes and didn't even know about the first one until he was sent to the ER with his second one.

This should come as no surprise when you consider the diet of young adults -- fast foods that include high amounts of sodium, fat, and sugar. At the grocery stores, young people load their carts with junk food. Also, young people watch television, play video games, sit at their computers for hours on end.... Bad diet + limited exercise = hypertension
