Heart-Healthy Omega-3s Not Healthy for Prostate: Study

The reason Omega 3 may increase risk is because most fish oil is taken in an oxidized--spoiled--state. This idiotic study had no method to look at that fact. The trans fat reduction in aggressive cancer is due to the unoxidized state of trans fat--that's what ther for, to remain unspolied under hi temps.

JEAN DORE of FL 5:29PM April 27, 2011

HI! I'M A 62 YR OLD WHITE MALE. THERE IS A FAMILY HISTORY OF PROSTATE CANCER, (MY DAD PASSED AWAY FROM IT AT AGE 70). I HAVE AN ENLARGED PROSTATE WITH PSA LEVEL 3.5-3.9. I'VE HAD TWO BIOPSIES WITH NEG RESULTS. I HAVE VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH BPH, (ENLARGED PROSTATE). I HAVE HIGH TRIGLYCERIDES WHICH MY DOCTOR PLACED ME ON LOVAZA ,(CONCENTRATED OMEGA-3, FATTY ACIDS PRESCRIPTION). ALL MY LIPIDS HAVE DROPPED FROM OFF-THE-CHART LEVELS TO NORMAL RANGES. I'VE BEEN ON THIS REGIMIN ABOUT TWO YEARS. PRVIOUSLY MY PSA LEVELS WERE LOWER, BUT I DID HAVE MORE SYMPTOMS THAN I DO NOW. OVERALL, THE HIGH LEVELS OFG OMEGA-3, FATTY ACIDS HAVE BEEN BENEFICIAL. PRAISE THE LORD! THANKS!

And what does fish oil do to women?

Dema of FL 11:59PM April 25, 2011

Studies such as this one are significantly limited by the fact that they are not controlled or randomized. Many other variables that promote prostate cancer cannot be controlled for. As a result, often times, studies such as this come up with conclusions that are then proven wrong in subsequent controlled studies. As a result, men eating fish for heart health should not stop because of this study alone. That being said, most studies about prostate cancer prevention have demonstrated that natural sources of vitamins and minerals are more beneficial than supplements.
