Heart doctor says not to take any pain medicine. My kidney doctor says pain medicine will kill my kidneys. (Stage 111)

Just what is a person to do when it is hard to function without using pain killers?????????

I am a 62 year old woman and because of my age and sport have had numeruos injuries. my family is medical, so I could have anything. I have found over the years that my body would tolerate naproxen, but none so the other ones except in quarter doses. I rarely take anything but the only drug I will take is Aleve. I still do everything and more.

Two things

1) I think this is a very interesting finding and it is important to know why Naprosyn did not increase the incidence of MI, if the mechanism is known I think more medications could be geared toard that mechanism

2) I think given the fact that these medications are OTC the pharmaceutical industry is not going to have any incentive to study and research, yet they can be very helpful in treating different arthritic conditions if used wisely and if newer generations could be developed

People take NSAIDs over a long time for many inflammatory conditions including gingivitis, arthritis, low back disc herniation and endometriosis. Inflammation anywhere increases the risk of MI, therefore it is likely the reason they take the NSAID that increases the risk of the MI, not the drug.

This does point to the need to solve problems that hurt, without meds when possible. Dental care for gingivitis, yoga for arthritis, weight loss and especially abdominal weight loss for just about every type of pain.

This summary does not clarify whether incidental use (i.e. once/month or less) or regular (ie daily, multiple) or freqent (>2-3x/week) also, the absolute, rather than the comparative, risk should be stated to properly inform the reader.

...if you don't educate yourself about what you put in your body, don't expect someone else to do it for you...now go have a fast food meal and blame the joint that sells it....
