EPA: Greenhouse Gases Hazardous to Your Health

CO2 and other greenhouse gases help keep our planet from freezing... but too much will lead to a dramatic climate shift. Humans have increased atmospheric CO2 to levels not seen in hundred of thousands of years. The Supreme Court has already ruled that the EPA has the ability to regulate CO2 as a "pollutant". Whatever label you give it, too much will definitely have a detrimental effect on our health and welfare.

Solar activity has been ruled out as the major factor in driving the current climate warming trend. There's no other credible scientific explanation besides CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

The sad thing about "Climategate" and the current administration is they seem to be acting as the flip side to the Bush years employing dogmatic tests to squelch meaningful debate. The reader of this commentary is directed to the work of Henrik Svensmark, physicist and scientist at the Danish National Space Institute in Copenhagen. Svensmark has spent a good deal of his professional career examining climate change since before man walked the earth stretching back well past the last ice age using the data provided by ice core samples collected at both pole's. Svensmark has found a clear correlation between the activity of the sun and its effect on the earth. One result of Svensmark's work was in detailing how cosmic background radiation (e.g. cosmic rays) decay in the earth's atmosphere to muons and other sub atomic particles.

Svensmark demonstrated that these daughter particles trigger formation of low level clouds. His work also showed how clouds formed at varying altitudes can cause cooling or warming. The Svensmark hypothesis and supporting data are very compelling and are covered extensively in an easy to read book written by Nigel Calder (former editor of New Scientist magazine) entitled: "The Chilling Stars: A New Theory of Climate Change". This work is important because if Svensmark is correct we may be entering a time when the sun swings between the extreme of an active sun to a quiet sun resulting in dramatic cooling. "Ice ball" earth the ultimate extreme with rapid glacier formation is very bad for humans. The last mini ice age that began in ~1250 A.D. resulted in moist winters and dry summers. At least two outposts of human civilization in the form of the Viking colony on Greenland and the Anastasi pueblo cliff dwelling tribes of the American southwest collapsed and disappeared. It begs the question how would humanity prepare not for "hot house" earth, but "cold storage" earth if Svensmark is correct? At the very least anyone truly concerned about humanity and global warming, and not just about making money from the soon to be sin tax known as cap and trading of carbon emissions, should review Svensmarks work and interview the man just as they have Al Gore.

CO2 is not a pollutant, no matter how many times the EPA says so. It is a necessary material for all plant life.
