Could BPA be the smoking gun in the precipitation, and higher incidence of, autism-spectrum disprders? Reliable and valid studies have shown no genetic link, so why so many families with more than one child on the autism spectrum? While I realize that diagnosing these disoerders has become more common due to better assessment tools and training of examiners (of whom I am one), there has got to be an environmental factor common to all affected individuals, and I suspect BPA.

Please consider this:

Our eyes are the most susceptible site in the body to airborne attack by virus, bacteria and chemicals.

Every year, more than 30 million pair of polycarbonate eyeglass lenses are dispensed to the US public.

BPA is the primary ingredient in polycarbonate eyeglass lenses.

Eyeglass wearers have them on, in front of their eyes, more than half of their lives.

Polycarbonate outgasses.

Is there any reason to be concerned?

I was struck by the words of David Melzer the coauthor of the study that too eating many calories and saturated may be the cause of diabetes. Of course that's the case, but my interpretation of their study was that they statistically removed high BMI and large wasteline effects from the particular analysis upon which the headlines are based.

Those latter factors are not specifically calories and fat consumption, but I thought are close correlates of BMI and wasteline.

My own analysis is that there are five key reasons why the study is important. But Melzer's comment makes me ponder the deep statistical validation and I guess that's why the authors are calling for more studies and complementary analysis before undue concern mounts.
