According to what I read, fish oil is good for a lot of things besides the heart. I take Dr. Dave's pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Check it out at www.drdavesbest.com

"Reining in our nation's cholesterol levels over the past 40 years has yielded great benefit to health and longevity." That statement may or may not be true. From my reading, there is a lot of evidence that it is the tremendous advances in critical care and heart surgery that is making the difference - not lowering cholestrol.
As you know, cholestrol is as vital to the body as DHA and EPA. In fact, I've read that there are as many deaths associated with low cholestrol as high cholestrol. So, as I say, I don't think you can prove your statement about lowering cholestrol over the past 40 years.

You need not go to your doctor and receive a prescription for fish oil. Try "BARLEAN'S Omega Swirl (Lemon Zest)," available at Whole Foods, or your local health food store in the refrigerated section. I use it instead of butter/margarine on my whole grain toast every morning. It's amazingly yummy!

Lovaza's stated purpose is to lower extremely high triglycerides...numbers in the 400's and 500's. Those are extreme numbers and the medecine is for extreme cases. The market is awash with "ultra pure" supplement claims. I decided to take a supplement brand that I trust because ocean fish farming, fish processing, and ocean fishing in general, have no appeal due to the heavy metals in the fish. That said, I think it would be important to have some standards about supplement claims of purity. For openers, how about a standard definition of purity.
