I have a friend that can not be put on a waiting list to receive a new Kidney. Is there an organization that you can refer me to , so that I can help JOE find a kidney, and be put on this list? I would really like to help him. He lives in Alaska and has to go three times a week for chem therapy. He is in need of this assistance as soon as possible because it is effecting his health. When Joe was younger he got cancer in his kidney, and we really don't want to lose JOE. Please help us to get help for Joe.

I was tested to be a Kidney donor for my sister-in -law, found out today I am not a match. I want to do the Kidney exchange, whenI told the Kidney cordinator, she was very cold about it. I asked her some questions regarding the exchange and she acted as if I was invading her time. I wish I could find someone to take this serious. I am 48 in perfect health, O+

I have not heard from any of the doctors who were so eager to handle my brother and my transplant- I was the donor. It was only the 2nd one done in Kansas City MO in 1972 at St Lukes Hospital. I do not regret saving my brothers life. I had 2 children with no problems, and have not noticed any real helath issues until I was in my late 40's - early 50's. I have high blood pressure and keep it in check with 25 MG of Atenolol. I have high colesterol in the 300's and I am trying to get it in check now trying 145MG Tricor. It has been difficult to get it down. Any information would be great. I am overweight some- 150 lbs for a 5'1" frame. Still working on that. My brother lost my kidney (only a B match) ond recieved another. He was 23 and lived until he was 49 and died due to compications after being on anti rejection meds for so long. At least we got to have him in our lives a few more years.

I donated a kidney to my little brother almost 2 1/2 years ago have been in good health with exception to high cholesterol and intermittent high blood pressure over the last year. Three months ago I was told I stage three CKD . I have been battling the Insurance company from day one over coverage. I think potential donors need to know that after donating how alone I feel battling the insurance company. Where is help for us ?

I was in the process of donating one of my kidneys to a relative. I had Hepatitis B years earlier, so the recipient had to take some sort of anti rejection??? meds or something for six months and they we were scheduled to have the surgery. At the sixth month it was found out that I had Paget's Disease and I underwent a mastectomy & radiation. That was approx 8 years ago. Is it possible to be a donor candidate again. I have a close friend who is awaiting a kidney & I didn't want to suggest it, until I knew for sure.

Theres certainly nothing wrong with donating live organs but I think that anyone thinking about donating a kidney should realize the consequences of having only one kidney before they decide to. I do not think anyone should get caught up in the "hype" of the moment and donate without thinking things through. You shorten your lifespan and you will not be able to keep your body as clean of metabolic by products and any kinds of prescription drugs or pollution toxins that might be excreted in urine. don't get me wrong I don't think there's anything wrong with donating a kidney to anyone but I'm afraid that some people might do it not knowing the consequences. It would be dishonest to tell someone considering donating a kidney that after donating one that life if going to be exactly the same as it would have been before. Other than that if anyone wants to make an informed and well thought out decision in donating a kidney I say more power to them.

What a great idea!! I hope the chain never is broken, so many people will live because of this idea. There are still many people who don't even know about kidney transplants and what to do to help. I think they are mostly afraid to donate a live organ, because maybe someone in their family might need one. Well my feeling on this is if your kidney disease is not in the family and not contagious, then you only have one other decision to make. Save a life! If more people get involved with this circle then the need for cadavers will become unnecessary. They would become the last chance.

Come on everyone! Get on the Wagon and cheer us all on to life!

We need your support and your body parts. Thank you so much for your unselfish act of giving. It is a sad day when your own grown children will not save your life. I have trust that they will grow up some day, I just hope it is before I pass away.

Always put a smile on your face and tell the truth. Even if you think they don't want to hear. Out of sight out of mind as the saying goes.

I figure I have about 5 years before I can get a transplant. I have been told that because of my sensitivity and my blood type that it may take 7-9 years for a transplant. Well, I am not waiting that long. I am taking control of my own life and researching hospitals that have success in Reactive Panel Testing which is reducing my antibodies to be a better candidate for a transplant. Also I am willing to be a Pay it Forward Patient/Organ Donor. I am looking for a live donor so I can spend my life with playing with my grandchildren. Can you think of anything more important than your grandchildren? I can't.

Thanks for reading my comments. Be well everyone.

I am still in the hospital here in india after i donated a kidney to my father who is 48 yrs of age on march 11, 09. And i just want to be informed on how far are reseaches sure that 1 kidney is enough for normal living? For how long has the study on living donors made to be sure of this?! I hope i still got some more than 50 yrs to live because i am 22 now and my life has just taken its course. I hope this whole thing helps my father. Please answer this if possible through my mail. I would like to eccourage other donors if i am sure it's completely safe.

Five years ago I donated a kidney to my father. Recently I found out that my GFR is 56. A reading under 60 indicates chronic kidney failure. The hospital where the transplant was performed does not follow up with me. I wonder how it has been determined that kidney donation is safe, if there is no follow up with the donors? I'm hoping that a lowered GFR is normal for a kidney donor, but I have seen no research to that effect.
