Dialysis Patients Do Better at Higher Altitudes

The Normobaric oxygen paradox seems to show incresed interest, not only in renal and onchologic patients. It has been shown by recent findings that this phenomenon is quite effective even in orthopaedic patients (the Oxygen breathing group after hip surgery did not received blood transfusion post op compared to the Air breathing group 30 min every other day (Abstract EUBS 2009), cardiac surgery patients (on two randomized groups the 100% oxygen versus the 50% oxygen patients showed a marked increase of EPO after one single 2 hours session(Abstract ESA 2009)) this is certainely useful as myocardal and cerebral tissue protection....may be this should be proposed before every surgery....?

Many other application could potentially be found to help patient with this inexpensive system.

Most likely, the high-altitude patients are simply getting more oxygen during dialysis than their lower-altitude counterparts. In the last few years, it was discovered that a simple pattern of oxygen breathing can stimulate the body to produce its own erythropoietin, the natural form of the manmade treatment for anemia that is one of the most expensive drugs on the planet. You can Google for "normobaric paradox" if you want to try to find the articles (there are only 3!) published on this incredible discovery.

Since that discovery, virtually no one has noticed. Oxygen breathing was used to cure the anemia of chemotherapy in one breast cancer patient. And a Swiss doctor is trying to raise funds to perform a study to see of oxygen breathing could save lives in Africa by treating the anemia that kills so many malaria patients.

Unfortunately, because no one can patent and profit from simple oxygen, there is little interest and no dollars for funding research on this simple, inexpensive, and amazing discovery.
