The criteria for being considered diabetic, particularly diabetes 2 has been loosen, so of course more people are now considered diabetic. It used to be the cutoff for diabetes was 180, now it is 125. That’s makes a huge difference.

Lowering the criteria increases the number of really mild cases and therefore also increases the chance that diabetes 2 will not be taken as seriously, because there are a lot more mild cases.

On top of that, there are doctors that have tried to throw people like me into the spectrum of diabetes diagnosis mix, because sometimes I go over 100.

Yes, I can be considered insulin sensitive, I am fine with being placed in a risk group, but going over a 100 after fasting is usually directly tied to asthma and severe allergies. Not being able to breathe throws quite a few of my numbers off including my blood sugar a little bit, but I think it is my asthma and/or allergies that should be the main focus of concern.

Instead, I have seen more concern over my borderline blood sugar numbers than my asthma and allergies, because diabetes can be deadly, forgetting there is a huge range for blood sugar above 100. I am not as worried about a borderline blood sugar level as I am of dying from an asthma attack or allergic reaction.

I believe that a blood sugar level is more of a symptom like body temperature, and blood sugar represents more than just diabetes. At some point, maybe we will take a broader view of blood sugar.

People think prevention is all about free screenings. Those screenings cost you money, run up your health insurance bill and make people in the medical device field a lot of money. You want to keep down health care costs? Spend your money on vegetables and fruit instead of chips and co-pays.

Walk 30 minutes a day. Do this to avoid/manage diabetes AND high blood pressure AND high cholesterol -- nature gives you a three-fer. This would drastically cut back on most of the medical spending in the US, which goes to treating heart disease and diabetes. It's so simple, people.

Don't look for a pill to save you. Just get out of your chair, walk to the store and buy some veggies (don't fry them) and you will live longer and healthier.

--No magic potions

--No magic pills

--No magic screenings

will save us from ourselves, but our carelessness can make a few people very rich and a lot of us poorer off.

Disclaimer: if you pr a loved one are born with or contract a condition that is not treatable by lifestyle changes, I'm very sorry and I'm not talking to you. But we all have to take better care of ourselves if we are going to afford to take care of you.
