This seems to point all toward weight and exercise. Seems a little simplistic for an evaluation. Aren't there other factors as well?

Can a persistent headach, vision problems, and at the same time nausea be symptoms? I scored a 6 and only took this test because I was curious. Thanks.

i have 2 points for this assesment and i have type 2 diabetes. i have been working out 30-45 mins 6 times a week and have cut back carbs considerably for the past 5 weeks. have lost no weight and my sugar is steadily climbing. no meds yet, but my sugar is over 200 50% of the time and i have been unable to get it below 135 EVER, and thats when i only eat carrot sticks and salads! so if your overweight by even a little, and/or have a relative with diabetes get checked now and often! my mom is the first on her side of the family to have it, shes a perfect weight, eats healthy and works and she has it out of no where, however she smokes and drinks Alot of lite beer and we beleive this is how she ended up with it. me on ther hand inherited it from my dad, grandad grt grandmom and so on.....

This test can be very misleading although I understand it is designed to get people thinking about the possibility of developing diabetes. I have been diagnosed as prediabetic, being of normal weight for my height, but my son developed type 1 diabetes at age 27. Prior to then, he had no symptoms. He was very skim but not underweight and active. It was never known what actually caused him to develop the disease. People also need to know that there are other conditions that develop with with uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Other than the most cost commonly mentioned ailments, depression is the most dangerous. I seldom hear Drs talk about it or read about it. I had to experience it with my son. Being depressed, you loose track of time and subsequently do not check your sugar levels nor eat on a regular schedule, which develops into a spiral that can lead to a condition called DKA (Diabetic Keto-acidosis) or diabetic coma. He was found deceased in his apartment, apparently suffering from DKA, with no to reach him in time for treatment. I wish people would take diabetes more seriously because it does kill.

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes all 3 pregnancies, and had to start insulin 3x/day very early in my latest pregnancy. I was 95 lbs. prior to getting pregnant (all 3 times), exercise frequently, and eat healthy (always whole grain, lots of nuts and vegetables, indulge rarely and overindulge never, etc.), but my father has type 2 diabetes. The endocrinologist told me that with one diabetic parent, the risk of developing diabetes is 40%. So for me, my lifestyle was not a contributing factor, and genetics was the deciding factor. I would suggest to anyone that regardless of how healthy your lifestyle and how well you scored in this test, if you have a parent or sibling with diabetes, GET YOURSELF TESTED.

I was diagnosed with type two diabetes at the age of 50. The doctors started me on medication immediately, diet, etc even without giving me a chance to change my diet and see if that worked. I continued with the medication for three months, did all the blood tests etc., and was normal. Then I made up my mind to change my lifestyle. I prayed, stopped all medication, stopped sugar and all pre-packed fruit drinks etc completely. Ate fresh fruits, plenty of salads, mostly organic wholesome foods with lots of fibre. I have a blessed wife who prays a lot for me too. Now I am without any diabetes, leading a normal life, my blood test every three months is normal. I believe in this commercial world if you want everything instant like instant coffee then the doctor is the best bet, and he has a plethora of medicines to dent your pocket. I think the best thing is to change your lifestyle and pray. A naturopath will be your best bet.

My score is 1. I am 59 years old and have been taking insulin for 14 years. Not overweight, always active and definitely eat correctly. This test could really mislead many people.
