I have been a diabetic (type 2) since 1980 at the age of 42; I am now 74. Since I have been taking my medication with proper diet and drinks (no surgar, alcohol), I have been keeping my sugar level betwen 5 and 8. I check my sugar reading every 15 days.

After started with prednison i got sudden onset of blurred vision, together with some other symptoms.

My doctor ordered some blood work and sure enough- blood sugar was 178!!!!

It frightened me .

Prednison is history now, I feel much better, but fear of blood sugar remains.

I check my BS now and then, and walk,walk,walk....of course, I watch my food- and deviding my meals in five small portions helps too. In between - peppermint tea !

I have Type II Diabetes since I retired from the U.S. Navy. My Family do not have them. I am the only one who got it. My cardiologist told me that I might have gotten it when I was in the service in Vietnam. I had a quadruple by-pass heart surgery in 2004 and I am happy that doing well at 76 years old. My claim from Veterans Affair denied being not services connected. I will refile my claim directly to the VA.

My sister is 28 years old and 26 weeks pregnant. She has been

insulin depandent since she was 2. I know the risks of pregnancy to her and the baby, but after she has the baby,

what are the chances of her developing diabetes? My sister,

sadly, is not taking good care of herself and she hasn't for

a long time and I'm trying to learn everything I can

because it has just become apparent to my husband and I that

we are going to end up raising the baby because even if Lydia

survives she may not be able to provide anything for her

daughter and I do not feel that she will be a fit mother if

she continues on the way she is(she is in the ICU on an insulin

drip right now because she has diabetic keto acidosis(sp?) and

we're all surprised because her dr wanted her to keep her

blood sugar between 60-80 and she said she had. Anything

you can tell me or any links you could provide woudl be helpful

because I know less than I should about a condition my sister has. Thank you.

The risk of diabetes is increasing day by day any many of them are still unaware of it. Is it true that only in USA, the number of diabetics has crossed the 23 million mark ooh as in http://www.diabetessymptomscare.com/. This is the right time!
