FaustmanLabs.org has found a cure that no one seems to be excited over.

As an adult I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes more than 13 yrs ago. I've been following Dr. Denise Faustman's newsletter for a couple of years. Check out the progress she, and her colleagues are making. Her direction makes the most sense. Who cares if the drug companies loose money. The cost for not finding a cure will bankrupt our country. Prescriptions, medical procedures, hospitalizations and worker productivity will certainly cost the tax payer more in the long run. If the government can subsidize the oil companies then they can help to find a cure.

So, maybe I'm in the minority, but I am excited by the research, direction and progress Dr. Faustman is making. These researchers give me and others like me hope.

I think that there is a cure out there but too many doctors would be out of a job and pharmaceutical companies would lose money. Please if there is a cure lets get it out.

As far as the problem of stoping the immune system from attacking they could try immunosuppression chemo therapy to shut down the immune system and start it up again with immature cells not programed to attack the pancreas like those guys in Brazil did. Heres an artcle about it http://diabetes.webmd.com/news/20090414/stem-cells-promising-for-type-one-diabetes

This method in Brazil is only good for people with new cases. I've had type one for about a year and a half now. The problems that come with immunosuppressive drugs is still an issue that would need to be worked around.

Another method in New Zeland takes insulin secreting islet cells from geneticly modified pigs puts them in a protective gell and puts them in a cavity near the liver they are testing more people with it now here's an article on that

http://www.technologyreview.com/biomedicine/23072/?a=f

and there is a diet called the paleo diet that people have put themselves on and claim they have no need of insulin for a year now but all it is in my opinion is just not eating anything but meat nuts and certain vegetables for the rest of your life.

This article was originally posted October, 2008. That is kind of disheartening that there is nothing new to report in almost two years?!

My four year old son has been diagonosed with Type I. He doesnt understand the disease but takes insulin without complain and cooperate us with the monitoring of BG at regular intervals. It is very painful and heartbreaking to see what he is going through. My request to medical faternity to PLEASE FIND A CURE.
