What to do for older children who continue to wet the bed:

When To Stop Living With Bedwetting – They Suffer In Silence

Parents naturally turn to their pediatrician seeking information regarding their child’s bedwetting problem around five or six. Often the “Medical Advice” is to wait. Less than 1% of bedwetting cases are caused by a physical problem.

Let’s look at a different side of bedwetting. An enuretic child or teenager does not see his/her bed as a place of rest; instead it is a place they will fail.

Not everyone outgrows bedwetting. Almost 2 million 15-19 still wet the bed!

Bedwetters suffer more then their parents or pediatrician may know. Embarrassment often leads to silence. They often live with feelings of fear of discovery, shame, low self-esteem, and feeling different. They can suffer with emotional pain and damage to self-esteem. Bedwetting is not anyone’s fault; it is the deep sleep that prevents the brain from responding. Less than 1% of bedwetting cases are caused by a physical problem.

Parents talk about the type of deep sleep their child experiences. Our findings show that this compromised sleep can also result in daytime symptoms; difficulty awakening, fatigue, memory difficulty, irritability, difficulty concentrating.

Many medical professionals misinform patients when they blame a small bladder as the cause of bedwetting. It is actually a RESULT of the bedwetting. Moreover, restricting fluids causes further underdevelopment of the bladder, as well as dehydration.

Rewarding a child for a dry night only brings confusion and gives everyone the impression that the child has some control over the bedwetting. If a child or teenager could wake up, they would.

The core of the problem is an inadequate arousal of the brain, a sleep disorder that needs to be changed to permanently end the bedwetting.

I work with the Enuresis Treatment Center. We treat the deep sleep disorder ending bedwetting. We have treated thousands of children, teenagers, and adult bedwetters, tracking all related symptoms. Our extensive research validates bedwetting as a problem caused by abnormally deep sleep, which doesn’t allow for the bedwetter’s brain and bladder to connect so they can effectively respond to each other. We have a definitive cure for the bedwetting child, teenager or adult.
