I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone wants to get a hold of me, they just say 'Mitch,' and I say 'what?' and turn my head slightly.

That's the reason we Deaf people of the Deaf community wont give it up to fight for our Deaf rights in ASL education that does not require to have the device or the restriction of oral speaking and listening. Why? We do not hear the spoken languages and do not read everybody s lip movement for us to understand everything with those device that is not what it supposed to be from the beginning. That is not our natural abilities if we are being forced to be a shadow hearing. It s not what you are hoping for us to hear. That is our true total communication of having BI BI language that combines with ASL and English written which it s very important for Deaf babies/children s rights.
No difference between Martha Vineyard history and Deaf Nicaraguan s their own creative or native sign language before Deaf people moved out the island of Martha Vineyard for their ASL education with Laurent Clerc (First Deaf teacher for the Deaf school in Conn. It s fact of what Deaf Leaders/Deaf Advocate tells you for so many years before you found the fact. :-)
I would recommend you to read a book which is "Everyone Here Spoke Sign Language: Hereditary Deafness on Martha's Vineyard" by Nora Ellen Groce (Author). It s a very good book to help you to understand why it s so important for us to have American Sign Language as Deaf visual languages of the Deaf community in international world.
Thank you very much. :)
