Aromatase inhibitors also cross-inhibit other cytochrome P450s and this could be the mechanism of action of such anti-estrogens rather than the suggested estrogen receptor pathway, although it could utilize both. Inhibition of cytP450s would prevent activation of smoke procarcinogens.
