HPV is incurable. There are about 100 types of HPV. Gardasil helps protect against Types 6, 11, 16 and 18. GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV.

The price of the treatment is too high and inflexible. Cost barriers target people with excess income. The 26 YO cutoff point was based on a cost model, not a medical /health model. In addition, the deals cut, are medically discriminatory.

That is a byproduct of distorted patent system.

Universal Immunization is the only way, and the price needs to drop to Hep B price point levels. And for males over 26 near cost (how many male 26 yo virgins are there?) In fact any one over 26 deserves who fronts up at a clinic and says 'I'm practically a virgin' deserves free treatment.

Like antibiotics, it takes only a few poor communities to misuse the treatment, to ensure resistance. The vaccine only targets some, not all strains. The cervical landscape will change, and you can bet a new strain will develop.

In the meantime, the daughters of upper income families can fell a little better, that little daughter will better propagate the family line.
