If I am not mistaken, California is trapped by ocean winds pushing air towards it (with pollution) from the west and mountains on the east keeping the pollution in and preventing it from going to other places. California naturally gets and keeps pollution compared to other places because of its geography. Its not surprise CA is 8 of 10.

Really the reason several of those Cali regions have horrible air quality of not just from automobiles. There are many other cities with tons of traffic. Its because of location. The only exception would be houston. This could be from too many cars polluting the air. But the areas in Cali and Charlotte are also hurt from the currents that flow over them and where they sit in relation to the hills, mountains and valleys. Charlotte I lived in for a few years, horrible air quality. Alot of traffic but no more then a average metro area. But they were stuck in the piedmont region, east of the mountains, and the jet stream often brought up alot of the polluted air from Atlanta directly over the region. The area sat in a lower lying area and it cause the air to become stationary and slow moving over the region itself. So it basically had to suffer from its own pollution, poor air circulation over the region and deal with the down wind effects from Atlanta.

There's always a price for living in heaven! Everyone's gotta car, so what the hay to you expect? Still moving there, here's to ozone and the "green" haze!!!

8 for 10 What a record.

Here's a thought: IF SF CA boycotts the state of AZ over illegals and it ticks of Americans everywhere - who then boycott CA, the lack of commerce & tourism should help clear up your skies. See, it's all about finding the bright spot and....you're welcome.
