Before taking any bisphosphonates you should check into the possible side effect of osteonecrosis (bone death)! Apparently strengthening the bones can lead to cutting off blood flow; fragments of bone then work their way through the skin.

My wife had several years of Aredia and Zometa infustions and ended up with osteonecrosis of the upper jaw and of her sternum.

VERY NASTY!!
