Hmm i wonder if this has anything to do with increased cannabis use especially as medical cannabis is starting to get more accepted. 1999 to present sounds pretty close to the timeframe medical cannabis has been around. of course there is also the time before 1920 as well but it was truly a medicine then.
Anyways just food for thought. I'm sure the education of the ills of tobacco contributed as well probably more so.

Simple. More people have learned that Vitamin D3 prevents cancer and are taking higher doses than the unscientific one the FDA has been sitting on for decades.

As a former researcher in Cancer, I'm concerned that "statistics" might not tell the whole story, such as how many cancer cases "have not been diagnosed", due to insurance problems, and the recession, two factors that could "hide' from the statistics, the real incidence of cancer. Because cancer is a "genetic" disease, and absent any revolutionary treatments, except for immunization against known "viral-caused cancers", I think that statistics such as this article could be very misleading.
