How much better of an example to the uselessness of prohibition and Federal cannabis policy do we need. Why dither with this priority statement, certainly not because of science or logic or fact based reality. No the reason to dither is politically based. Here we have straddling of the issue presented as "progress". But if cannabis should not be a priority then why not change the policy and the laws? Why continue with the folly?
The "war" with cartels could be won and ended tomorrow with the ending of drug prohibition. Prohibition is not control or regulation of drugs, it is the relinquishment of control to the black market. Whatever harm comes from the use of these drugs is magnified by all the needless additional harm and cost created by the never ending unwinnable war.
The cost benefit equation flipped long ago. State controlled drug distribution limits the problems of drug use strictly to individual users themselves. Removal of the financial incentives that perpetuate black markets ends all the associated crime
