Does this then mean that lactose intolerant people in northern latitudes have higher rates of colon cancer? Lactose intolerant people often avoid calcium rich milk & dairy products. In Northern latitudes there is less sunlight in winter so less chance of natural vitamin D production.Chinese Canadians- look out!

Simply a case of taking the wrong form of calcium. Possibly you were taking calcium carbonate (same as tums) which can contribute to kidney stones, as well as gastric ulcers. Calcium citrate is a better choice, but, not more than 500 mg at one time. Also, make sure it is coupled with magnesium, which will aid in absorption and inhibit mineral oxcilates "stones". By the way, the author is right on the money, but only about 10 years late.

Calcium may ward off colon cancer, but the first time you get a severe case of kidney stones from the excess calcium your kidneys are trying to pass, your butt will become a very secondary interest!! In fact, you will never want to crap again as long as you live!! Do your homework author, take a calcium supplement until you get kidney stones....!
