This is a good step to further the study of breast cancer and I'm thankful in the interest that has been taken in PART of our Hispanic women. I'm Ecuadorian and after 19 years of leaving in the US, did I come to find out about the reality of breast cancer when my mother had it. Finally Latina women have been included in research of this type. This can help spread the awareness level of breast cancer not only here but outside of the US for ALL women.

I understand that being Mexican you are hispanic, but can you really do a study on one nationality and extend it to all nationalities that speak the same language? I would think that a broad study covering hispanics from multiple countries would be more accurate to then apply to "Hispanics."

College statistics tells me you can't make the claim "Two-Thirds of Hispanic Women Discover Breast Cancer Themselves" with the ELLA study because it is not a random sampling of the population group "Hispanic." A more accurate title would be "Two-Thirds of Mexican Women Discover Breast Cancer Themselves."

From a more scientific point of view wouldn't the mixing of Spainards with indigenous groups within each country make the genetic makeup quite different?

The story was very good, although it is stating Hispanics in a large percentile have cancer. Although I'm sure there is validity, I would like to see more research in story. My people deserve that R&D.

My aunt can attest to this discovery. She had a mammogram in November 07 and during a self exam felt a lump. Sure enough it was cancer. This was just months after her mammogram had found nothing. I am happy to say she is cancer free! She just had her final exams today!

To Healing News of NM, your comment shows a disturbing lack of knowledge regarding

human anatomy, histology and physiology. [Not to mention medical reimbursement.]

As to the article; while self exam is important, by the time most women feel a breast cancer it is already 1-3 cms in size if not larger. This should not be misconstrued

as early detection.

The title should read something like: "Two-Thirds of Hispanic Women with Breast Cancer Discover it Themselves." The current title implies that two-thirds of the hispanic women have cancer.

i have fibrocystic breast disease. recently my oncologist found a mass in my left breast and the right side were the same old cysts. when i told him that maybe the mass might just be cysts, he told me that he knew the difference between cysts and a mass. good news was that after i had a further examination that he recommended that there was no malignancy. it sure scared me silly but he has yet to explain what that mass was. so i recommend to all to go check it out as fast as you can. i feel i can now rest for awhile but i will always go for my once a year checkup. just thought i'd share that with you.

There is a sad truth here. Valid research shows that app. 20% of all mammograms contribute to cancer growth. Another problem is the profit motivation with standard medical procedures of MD's, that make huge amounts of money prescribing pharmaceutical drugs, surgery and chemotherapy.

Another research suggests that 100% of all chemotherapy does not work with breast cancer while poisoning the patient, sometimes contributing the a death. This might not be diagnosed as a "cause of death", as the patient was already sick from malignant tumors.

Sometimes a benign tumor, also called cyst or fibroid, actually can be a life saver, if it is approached regarding its reason for being there. They can be reduced naturally without surgery, with simple natural means, and are simply there as the body's way of storing toxins or substance that the liver and kidneys are not able to filter out of the blood stream.

Surgery to remove tumors / fibroids in many cases will exacerbate this condition, as the body will find another place to put tumors to replace ones that are removed, leading to a worse condition. There is a recent report stating vitamin D cream works great by rubbing directly on tumors to reduce them, without surgery and chemotherapy with the accompanying drugs.
