Google "Smoker selling house" and you'll find hundreds of articles about how hard it is for smokers to sell their houses -- most of these articles written BEFORE the current housing crisis.
You lose a lot of buyers that way. I just bought a house that was one month away from foreclosure, sold for about 45,000 less than it was appraised at, because of the cigarette odor. Two prior sales had fallen through because of the lingering smoke smell.
It's taken about 8K worth of remodelling and work -- similar to the work done on California homes taking smoke damage from wildfires -- to get the stink out, which was giving me migraines.

so like it causes tooth decay and periodontal disease? THERE SHOULD BE A WARNING THAT SAYS: "SMOKING CAN LEAD TO TOOTH DECAY AND/OR PERIODONTAL DISEASE"
