Katherine Hobson: I'm sorry it took me almost a month to see this comment and respond to it. The National Cancer Institute has reviewed the research on this topic, and concluded that there is NO increased risk of breast cancer from either a previous abortion or miscarriage. Girls should be encouraged to develop healthy habits to reduce the likelihood that they will develop diabetes and heart disease as well as breast cancer as adults.

Some other lifestyle factors that reduce breast cancer risk are keeping weight under control, limiting alcohol consumption and breastfeeding.
