How the Brain Interprets Pain and How to Get Relief

Now that I think about it, I was coddled by my mom. She had good intentions. I honestly think she was so sensitive that she could "feel my pain" and was treating me the way she would have wanted to be. I had leg surgery at age 16 and went through the roof when my surgeon told me to get out of bed. I notice that other people heal from their identical surgeries a lot easier than I do. Distraction definitely helps with my neuropathy. I am busy during the day and seldom think about my burning legs/feet. At night, when I am focusing on relaxing, my feet are on fire. I've read that this is very common. I find that the more pro-active I am with my own health, my pain seems to improve. For me, it's been a matter of choosing to be active vs. staying home and becoming weaker. This would depend upon the severity of the condition.
