Smart Kids More Likely to Try Illicit Drugs as Young Adults

In my opinion, if our school system was capable of sparking the interest of the children it is supposed to educate, smart kids would be more stimulated and less bored and less likely to try recreational drugs. It would have worked for me.

The basis for gifted-education programs is that the top 5% of kids are "special needs" just like the bottom 5%. These kids "get it" very quickly and need to keep moving academically or they get bored, have behavioral "problems" and a higher incidence of drug use.

These programs are attacked because "every kid is special" but, in fact that are incredibly effective and successful.
