I am so happy when i read this script of child play. Who ever thought of this has really done a grate job.. Because all that he or she said is the truth but not the fact.

This article sounds very one-sided. I'd like to know who the "experts" are and what the negative impact of less parenting was in the 50s.

We should be outside much more than we are! It is imperative for us to breath fresh air and rejuvenate ourselves. Especially with new surrounds, others and simply knowing what is happening with the weather.

I agree that free play is essential for kids to grow up to be healthy creative adults. One recent example is that my kids recieved a TickleMe Plant greenhouse kit and spent hours on their own having fun planting, watering and caring for this animated plant. They now wake up in the morning, tickle the plant and watch its leaves fold and branches droop. Then have creative play with this Pet TickleMe Plant for hours.

We found this plant kit at www.ticklemeplant.com

This plant can be planted outdoors for fun in the garden or in a flower pot.

One of the reasons we home educated our children was to allow them a much larger slice of their day to simply play. More play definitely did not disadvantage them educationally. Great article!

If I lived in rural Nebraska I might let my kids play outside all day. However, I live in a big city, with big city dangers. When I see kids running around loose in the neighborhood I wonder what kind of parents they have that would let them run around with so much potential for trouble. I think society in the 50's is MUCH different from society today, and this is the difference.

I don't really agree with this analysis. Perhaps the outcome is accurate, but you make it look like this is always the parents fault and how they parented? There are other reasons parents minimize, this outdoor play. There are a lot of evil in our World. Every day on the news you hear about a child that has been updated, a child that has been murdered, or a child that has been raped (I refuse to use the word 'molested'.)

If this country would use the law and make a safe place for our children to play, you would see more playing.

These aren't the same "experts" who have spent the last 20 years convincing parents that the outside world is a horrible, dirty, violent, germ-infested place where all manner of crazies and predators lurk are they?

And before someone jumps on the "the world is a different place now" meme, remember that the news media feeding you all this information makes money when you sit , glued to your television, terrified of the version of the world they pipe into your livingroom every day. I'm not saying there aren't horrible people and things out there, but you'll never learn how to deal with them sitting in your den. You'll also miss out on all the good people and things the world has to offer.
