Yes, no doubt meditation does help supporting faculties of brain and supports health of the nerve cells. The process involves concentration in a stable posture with the prerequisite that the during meditation thought process is maintained to its lowest level and the body is relaxed. This condition allows the brain cells to reorganise, rebuild the damaged and regain strength which leads to improved health of the nerves and tissue structure.

In India, meditation is a very old and proven way of life by the sages (YOGI) and they were said to establish mental connection and communicate through meditation (DHYAN) to far off places and persons in the universe. These sages were able to control and channelize their thoughts and action through meditation to the extent that they were able to defer aging and avert ailments for long times resulting in to healthy longevity. There is a reference; certainly not out of place in this context- the great sage “AADI SHANKARACHARYA” in ancient India, who was known for his immense yogic powers which were reckoned to be spiritual in nature. He was a great YOGI and with the YOGA and CONCENTRATION practice he had achieved great powers through meditational pursuits. To the extent that he was able to migrate from one place to the other via mental concentration and appear at the other place in person before the on lookers. There was an incidence in the life of AADI SHANKARACHARYA when, his aged mother staying at afar off place fell sick and had keen desire to see his son AADI SHANKARACHARYA near her at her last time. AADI SHANKARACHARYA was some were in Himalayas engaged in his yogic pursuit when his psyche got such vibes that the mother is willing to see him. He told to his disciple about this and instructed to take care of his “mortal” body behind when he would be away to his mother. The very next moment AADI SHANKARACHARYA settled “in dhyan” through meditation, his body remained still and in the other moment he appeared before his mother at a far off place. This was achieved by the great sage AADI SHANKARACHARYA through the power of meditation.

Meditation is sure to improve various mental fields to higher strata where the consciousness attains superior level and much strength is gained by the individual which leads to better and healthy living. The meditation also strengthens the self confidence and overall degenerative process is slowed down.(shripad)
