Their is no harm in children playing video games .But as everything needs discipline in life similarly playing video games should be just for a change or time pass.It should not replace normal routine activities. If it does so than the gaming habit becomes pathological & obscessive. This furthur increases social isolation, poor school attendance & poor grades finally resulting into school dropouts. If one wants to make a career out of playing video games than also he has to function as a normal responsible citizen.Apart from playing virtual games it is highly important to play real games as well for health & mental well being.Playing video games sucks all mental energy ( one feels exhaustive n is unable to solve complex mathematics).on the contrary the physical energy consumption is miniscule leading to obesity in teenagers. In addition to this one tries to follow the lead character of the virtual games...they r usually unrealistic..irrational..they dont have any emotional ties n reaction..they r emotion less faces...they break all the social rules n many times they evade police, bully citizens, snatch their vehicles....because of this the kids get hooked to the character who uses credit cards to purchase junk food n energy drinks ,performs heroic stunts but doesnt save anyones life...he is usually a taxi driver /pilot/cyclist or a junk but never a doctor ,lawyer, school teacher,a regular firm employee..the junk u can also exercising in gyms n visiting saloons...intoxication of video games can spoil interpersonel realtionships, the kid has learned the antisocial ways because he is influenced by the principal character n so the kids of todays generation r becomming materialistic emotionless souls which is harmful to the society n to their mental n physical health & school performances

Looking at this informatiion, as stated by Greg of FL, it makes me wonder: Who conducted the study? What expert is at work in this study? Any fool can conduct any kind of study and come up with some kind of hypothosis. You need to include this in something like this for a person like me to actually believe.

I am also a big time gamer. I can average 20-35 hours a week in front of a TV or computer playing some game.Am I depressed or isolated? Nope! I have many friends that I keep in contact with, and I can always put on a true smile. I show no other signs of anything mentioned in this article, and neither do my many big-time gamer friends.

I dont think its right having only 2 hrs a day because I am a teen and I have no depression and when I have a problem I dont go too video games I go do other things. I can understand that some teens/kids need 2 hrs a day but when I was a kid I had more then that and no depression. So I dont think 2 hours a day is good, maby more, some parents just need to learn when to kick the kids off.

I would love a link to the study. Correlation does not imply causation. This is a sample with very limited generalizability and it sounds like the experimental design would give no reason to claim that video games caused this behavior, but rather that these psychological problems are related in some way to video game addiction (define video game addiction) possibly through several other factors.

Two hours of screen time is a joke in this day and age. This generation is different and can't be held to the same dated standards that previous generations have in terms of limiting "screen time".
