This is a good post on brain research. More and more brain research supports the idea that our brain functioning can improve no matter our age, with the adoption of appropriate lifestyle and tools, and that doing so can help build our cognitive reserves and protect our brains against decline and even Alzheimer´s symptoms. I recommend checking out sharpbrains.com for a lot of good stuff on lifelong cognitive health and brain fitness, including this nice checklist to evaluate "brain training" products and claims: http://www.sharpbrains.com/resources/10-question-evaluation-checklist/

When articles are worded like this one, it does not encourage breastfeeding. Instead, it makes it seem like a "nice little extra". Truth is, breastfed babies are NOT smarter-those who are not breastfed do not perform as well. Babies who are not breastfed have more mental health problems. Girls are apparantly not disadvantaged as much as boys by not beign breastfed.

Would you talk about the "bvenefits of not smoking"?. No, it is reported as risks for smoking. Do we hear about "advantages of wearing seatbelts"? Rather we hear that not wearing them is dangerous.

It's time breastfeeding was considered the norm in studies and the lack of breastfeeding as the variable.
