9 Ways to Beat the Holiday Blues

Good advice. I did something this year I have wanted to do for several years. Background is that I was married for 30 years, and found out I had breast cancer. My ex had picked up some bimbo in a bar and left me for her. I had a tough time that year needless to say. I moved to NC where my daughter lives. Every year he likes to come to her house and parade his girlfriends in front of everyone. He always picks a heated argument over something when my daughter is not around. This year I finally very nicely recommended that I not be there when he is there. My daughter had a tough time accepting that. At Thanksgiving I was sick so couldn't go anyway. For Xmas, he is only going for dinner and then back home as his present girlfriend isn't coming. (So why doesn't he just spend the day with her anyway instead of driving 6 hours) I will go up after he leaves. I am happy I did this as my stress level is way down. I know this is difficult for my daughter and I remind her that this is my decision and has nothing to do with her. I feel after what he did to me, I don't even want to be on the same planet with him, much less across the table!!!! I hope she will someday understand that my happiness belongs to me and i don't need to see him or talk to him. In the biblical sense I have forgiven him as he is an alcoholic (tho won't admit it) but I will never forget what he did at such a vulnerable time in my life. I made it thru but it wasn't easy. Merry Christmas to all and a Health and Happy New Year

I really like tip #7. I often forget what a big difference a small change can make. Our brain lights up with any new stimuli, so even a small or short-term change can deliver a great mood boost. Much-needed in Utah this time of year!
