C'MON Anerica, Wake UP!!! Research & pay attention to nutrition and many of these SYMPTOMS will go away. As well as Diabetes, Heart Conditions, Stroke rates, Gout, FIBROMYALGIA=======HELLO?????? Does anyone think for themselves or their offspring, or their genetic dispostions anymore? A HUGE amount of information is available............. Oh Never Mind, just put the kids on Ridilin, & take another anti-depressant & blood pressure pill and, oh: Do NOT call me in the morning. We have to tools, we have the technology OTHER THAN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES who give us band-aids and treat us like guinea pigs - GET BACK TO BASIC NUTRITION and stop relying on "quick-fixes" It's that simple. Period-the end.

ADHD is linked to the same problem affecting most of the world BLOOD SUGAR . You do not have to be a diabetic to have this problem. ADHD has risen just as Diabetes has risen at the same levels.

A filmmaker has been reversing diabetes and Obesity in now 10 countries WITHOUT MEDICATIONS and the drug makers do not promote the story

just google SPIRIT HAPPY DIET

Reading the above article on ADHD diagnosis in children I did the math on what that costs Americans annually. Roughly a quarter of the population is under 20 years of age, that yields 75,000,000 persons. 10% of those, it seems are being drugged or soon will be, have been labeled as ADHD. That is 7,500,000 people, people! (Hey, even if it's half that, it's a lot!)

At an average monthly cost of $40 (Consumer Health) for each child that comes to $300,000,000 PER MONTH in drug sales. (Again, these are just raw figures.) That is 3.6 BILLION dollars per year.

How much of that do you think we're paying?! Through tax funded programs that cover these drugs for kids? A lot.

Sounds like we could do our deficit some good just by ditching this ridiculous practice of drugging children for "fidgeting." I mean, wake up people!

This "disease" is pure crap. It's a way for shrinks and drug companies to come up with a "problem" that can only be cured by spending tons of money on therapy and drugs. Oh no, kids don't pay attention! Kids are fidgety! REALLY? It's called being a kid. You're chock full of wondering about the world, your hormone levels are continually changing, in addition to physical changes in your body.

It really makes me glad I was in elementary/high school right before this crap became en vogue. It does make me wonder though just what disease I would have been diagnosed with. ADD? ADDHD? Assburger's Syndrome or however that's spelled? I really am curious what drug the schools would have tried to put in my system for the crime of being bored due to teachers teaching to the lowed common denominator kids instead of trying to challenge those of us who could actually perform.

The earlier quote about feminization is spot on. The doping of our kids, especially young males is clear and convincing evidence that either the expression "boys will be boys" has been forgotten, or there is a goal in some circles to lessen masculine behavior.

The other posters have nailed it as well. In addition to this garbage being thanks to educators, doctors and drug companies, we also have weak-kneed candyass parents to thank. Instead of being parents, many offspring producers want to be their kids' friends. F that. Be a parent, that's your job.

Why is it that this "spike" in ADHD diagnosis is ONLY in U.S. kids?

Could it be we have a culture of parents that no longer PARENT the kids?

Could it be the culture of "stand in the corner until your sorry" or "don't make me come after you" or better yet " don't make me get off this couch" is NOT working?

We have "parents" that want lifeless children "Childbots" that will sit in front of the T.V. (like the parent) or video game and never move. It is a sickening scenario that is developing.

People are choosing to have children without being a parent to them. Take the drugs away and get the kids outside and play ball, build a fort, climb a tree...SOMETHING. The kids need to be outside MOVING. Being tired is the natural "cure" for ADHD. Stop this ridiculous notion that everyone needs a drug to co-exist in society.

To say 1 in 10 kids "has" ADHD today is totally off the mark. The true statement would be that 1 in 10 kids has been labeled with ADHD. Add to this picture that now these kids can be turned into legal pharma drug addicts. This means that fully 10 percent of our county's children are victims of psychiatric fraud. The fact is that there is no published, agreed-upon standard for diagnosis of ADHD. A sickly comical video of a psychiatric conference shows a psychiatrist hemming and hawing for 20 minutes, unable to define any symptoms ADHD at all, in spite of the fact that he "sees a lot of them in his practice." How dare we allow this travesty. It is time for the mainstream media to pick up the obvious fraud here and run it down. We've allowed 10 percent of our kids to be hung with a label that will have them drugged everyday. Does anyone get this? This is child abuse. This is a crime. This has to stop. Are the advertising dollars from BigPharma so powerful that news media organizations have abdicated their responsibility to reporting the truth? Has it been left to the few of us who write comments on "articles" like this? Tell me it ain't so...

Does the fact that we've moved to a "female behavioral model" in elementary school have any impact on calling a fidgeting male as ADHD? Sure it does. Boys are not girls and don't act like them. Using a female behavioral model as the basis for calling a boy a problem is not right and is probably fraudulent.

I would hypothesize that placing all males in one class and teaching and treating them as males would dramatically reduce the number of ADHD labels on students.

ADHD is not a disease or illness, it is simply a description of a group of behaviors that someone has bundled together and given a name. To label our children with this does them a disservice. It is an unnecessary stigma. It seems to me that what we are really suffering from is a generation of parents who don't have a clue as to how to raise children, who aren't around enough to know them, guide them or learn how to, and who want to push the blame onto the child instead of themselves. What we have is PDP (Poor Dysfunctional Parenting) and DBPA (Dysfunctional Behavior Physician Assistance).
