I suffered with migraines throughout childhood and into adolescence. Doctors were unable to treat them successfully.
Several years ago I was diagnosed with depression. After getting treatment and overcoming that illness; I realized that I had been suffering from it most of my life.
When I saw here that a drop in serotonin may cause migraines, I believe that depression (which is also affected by serotonin levels) was the culprit in my migraine attacks all along.
People suffering from migraines may want to have themselves screened for depression, it made a difference for me. I no longer have migraines.

Keep a small notebook and write down what you notice about those three times a week headaches. Like: Have you hit your head? Is the pain dull, sharp, burning, one or both eyes, blurred vision...? How long does each symptom last? What are you doing when the pain hits? Have you eaten anything new? Are you hungry? thirsty? stressed? Is it around your menstrual onset? Can you tell before that the pain is coming on? What helps, hurts if anything? Is it getting worse? What have you tried? Show this information to your GP and eye doctor. Ask for a referral to a specialist... neurologist, migraine specialist, etc.
