I'm fairly confident that no opthalmologist in the science community is going to listen to opinions from people who believe in something they've never "seen." Keep your silly Jesus and God references to yourselves.

Venlafaxine (Effexor) does not belong to SSRI group of medications. It is SNRI, which means it affects norepinephrine and serotonin receptors.

Paxil, efffexor, and luvox has lots side effects, and usually less useful in geriatric population for the depression management.

Emulate him instead of praying to him. Obey the ten commandments not the 9.

The first,1 , says "G-D is One". Nothing else! All the Christian rationalizations on the planet will never change that

Well, I guess my salvation in 1974 just didn't take because I've suffered from depression for at least 20 years. Paul said "whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved ...." not physically or mentally made perfect. Jesus said "...whosoever believeth in me shall have eternal life."

You are doing Christ a huge disservice JH; assuming you are attempting to be serious. Thank God He loves us anyway.

I thought John Holmes was dead......

Depression is a serious disease and is not caused by anything other than chemistry.

Get a life.....

Considering the long list of terrifying side-effects mentioned in TV commercials for newer anti-depressants, the possibility of easily-treatable cataracts pales by comparison. As others have said, depression IS serious and, often, life-threatening. I'm 65 years old, and I was first diagnosed with depression in my early 30's. As with most depression patients, I have had to change anti-depressants from time to time, including long periods on SSRI-type medications, including those mentioned in the article.

I was diagnosed with very fast-developing cataracts (both eyes), several years ago. After investigating my options, I found a surgeon who was well-thought-of, and who explained everything in a friendly, easy-to-understand manner. The cataract removal surgeries - performed one eye at a time, a month apart - were wonderful successes. For the first time since my teen years, I was able to see without thick, ever-present glasses. That, by itself, did a lot to counter my depression!

So, DON'T avoid anti-depressants, even SSRI's, in fear of needing future cataract surgery. It's a wonderful, modern-day procedure which, like the right anti-depressant, can only make your life better.
