Until the lobbyists for the drug companies don't rule public policy, then articles like this will persist. US drug companies are not going to police themselves to try and bring down their own products. Based on the various drug/food recalls, it's obvious that the FDA is far ineffective. At the end of the day, people have to be accountable for their health and that of their children. Why not delay vaccines and take precautions?

Taking a bath or shower has real risks. The risks could be as serious as serious brain injury or death from slipping and impacting the brain against an unyielding surface.

Wearing a seat belt also carries measurable and real risks.

Vaccines are not always safe.

So we should stop vaccinating, stop wearing seat belts, and stop cleaning ourselves.

This study claims to have controlled for income and maternal education, but then it says that the "most timely" group is richer and more educated than the "least timely" group. So any differences in testing results between the two groups could easily be due to those factors, not the fact that they got vaccines.

It should be noted that neither of these studies measured Autism as an outcome. the Pediatrics study says (tucked away at the very end), "Finally, our analyses were limited to publicly available data from the original study. Future VSD studies without this restriction would be able to assess a wider range of outcomes. These include putative vaccine adverse effects such as neurodevelopmental delay, autism, and autoimmune disorders."

And the first NEJM study says right up front, "(We did not assess autism-spectrum disorders.)"

Please keep in mind that this is pretty much a PR stunt to trick you into thinking that research has shown that vaccines don't cause autism or increase autism risk, but these studies had autism as part of their exclusion criteria.

They do not have anything to do with autism.

Jeff, you make some great points! Michele - it does hurt other people when you don't vaccinate. Kids die needlessly every year from contracting diseases that are preventable by vaccinations.

Sometimes the children dying are ones whose parents are innocent (they do vaccinate their children) but were around 'friends' who chose to not vaccinate their kids. Scenario - your unvaccinated 2 year old is around your friends not fully vaccinated (many vaccines take multiple injections over time to have full effect) infant. Your two year old is carrying the illness and does get a little sick from it, but the infant (having a weaker immune system) has full-blown infection and dies. These are sad but true situations.

Vaccination should be as essential as feeding, clothing, bathing. We do these things to nurture the healthy growth of our children. I don't doubt that our environment contributes to autism, ADHD, dementia... Change your lifestyle - wash your food, eat organic, exercise, don't take unnecesary meds while pregnant and breastfeeding, do breastfeed, stop smoking, no more than one drink of alcohol per day, but don't kill your child and mine because you have a 'choice'!

By the way, the doctor who first tried to link vaccines from autism has lost his license to practice medicine. His unethical practices in this study being the cause.

...because vaccines are not safe for everyone. That's a recorded medical fact. And an unfortunate paradox people defensively choose to ignore, at others' peril.

Read the NVICP case histories. Educate yourself about vaccine-induced neuroimmune and autoimmune disorders, GI dysfunction, encephalopathy, and other related conditions. Read the vaccine injury reports to VAERS.

A key question is, how can mild to moderate adverse reactions be prevented when government agencies and pharma-funded researchers manipulate statistics instead of studying children and adults in person?

Read here about tics in children, study limitations & conflicts of interest:

If you believe that all children and adults deserve safe vaccines and prevention from deadly disease, then please stop excusing mediocrity from tax-funded government agencies and profiteering by pharmaceutical companies. Demand honest, fair consumer protection for all vaccine recipients.

Primum non nocere.

Parents, you are right to be concerned about the health of your new child. You should seek out as much information as possible about the potential benefits and the potential risks of vaccines... and then decide for yourself. There are "experts" advocating almost everything, so it is difficult to get comfortable.

A good site with information that is significantly different than the author above provided is available at www.vaccineinfo.net

Ultimately, it must be the parent's decision on behalf of their child.

If vaccines are so effective, then why worry if some people chose not to vaccinate their children? After all, if your children are vaccinated, they won't get sick, right?

As long as it doesn't hurt others, people should be able to choose what gets put into their bodies, and those of their children. Since vaccines are only a potential risk to the recipient, that person or their child should have the right to choose.

If, on the other hand, vaccines DON'T work, then no one should be forced to get them due to known and unknown health risks, which are impossible to disprove.

Theres more mercury in a single serving of Tuna than in any vaccination.

One of the most supported arguements is that children show signs of autism at the same time childhood immunizations are administered. There also hasnt been a decline in the number of children diagnosed with autism since Thimerosol has been, for the most part, weeded out of the equation.

The fact of the matter is that they're your kids, do with them what you will, but understand that if this trend of going unvaccinated persists you'll end up putting not just your kids but all unvaccinated kids at a great risk of epidemics of diseases not seen in the States for decades.

Theres a reason Polio, Pertussis, Measles, Hepatitis, Diphtheria Mumps, Chicken pox, etc. haven't been much of a threat in recent years and its not because recent generations have been graced with magically superior immune systems.. Its the break throughs in medical knowledge and application that have kept us protected from these things. Turn your back on medicine and see what you'll face then.

Next time your "googling" the horror stories of vaccines and are making that decision not to protect your children, why dont you "google" some info on these diseases and at least make an informed decision.

Weigh the pros and cons.. because its a fact that chemoprophylaxis works, and this autism by vaccine stuff is just a theory with no scientific backing.
