Casual Sex Doesn't Cause Emotional Damage: Study

Should we do as animals do? It is not religion (an external entity) which makes us weak, but misunderstanding (an internal problem with accepting the reality of the world). Truths can be expressed in religious or secular ways, but the truth is in the sayer, not the way of saying. Religion is a language for expressing percieved truths which have not, as yet, been scientifically established, or at least, this is how it should be treated. If you consider (this is not exclusively so, but easier for those coming from the west where it is hard to forgive the detrimental side of christianity) eastern religions, especially daoism (the philosophical form, not the folk-tales) and buddhism (especially the kinds more intelectually acessible, the mahayana schools) you will see that the important thing about faith is not in believing things known not to be true, which is just stupid, but it is as a hypothesis, to be tested, tried to be proved wrong again and again, and discarded when found to be wrong. As the buddha said: "Believe nothing, no matter who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own common sense and wisdom. Do not blindly accept my words, but take them, and test them as a goldsmith would test a coin by biting, melting, weighing it. Test them and for yourself determine the truth."

Indeed, alexandra, that is the great mistake of our age. Since the "enlightenment" (16th C), when a number of important things happened almost at once: The schizm of the catholic/protestant movements, the change of the common viewpoint of most people from a socially-defined to an individually-centred one, the printing press and it's increse in the availability of information, both false and true, and the beginning of the march of technology. It in this period, from both religious (the protestant movement) and secular (various revolutions in the name of "liberty") that humans started to see themselves as truly seperate from nature, as more moved to cities, the start of fewer, bigger farms with more output but less variety, and much more trade. Now while these events have also had equally culturally positive effects, the downside is our lack of acceptance of ourselves as a natural part of being.

It's the lack of casual sex that causes emotional damage.

This Puritanical society we've all been raised into has caused more harm than most realize. While there is no reason to vilify monogamy and many reasons to embrace it as we age, there is also no reason to vilify the need and desire for casual sexual encounters. We are able to protect ourselves from the transmission of diseases. Why not live with a healthy attitude towards our own sexual desires rather than maintain the status quo, i.e. constant repression and the repercussions that creates?

Okay, I know this is a bit off topic, but are humans not natural? Bees get to synthesize honey and it's called natural, and mammals get to synthesize milk. Chimps and dolphins use other objects as tools and it's all called natural. Why is it a natural human being can't naturally create a tool such as a computer, car, or condom according to our nature? Why is it that everything that is "man-made" not "natural" does that mean we are not natural ourselves?

Does the brain create consciousness or consciousness pre-exist and simply use the physical brain in this lifetime? If we are no more then animals, then no action matters. If we are more then animals, then our actions are of infinite importance and consequence; to ourselves, to those we interact with. Sex for humans is more then the physical act of animals; it is also a spiritual act of conscious, eternal beings.

If the facts contradict your mythology, it's your mythology that is wrong, not the facts....

sex is of nature. do animals get married before they have sex? in my opinion religion is what makes man kind weak. our species would be so much more powerful if we would disregard religion.
