how do they know it is not that those who have happy outlooks and good coping mechanisms on life are more likely to remain alive? why didn't they give more details about the study?

Excellent news! I always expected that to be the case for me. As I grow older, my sense of happiness seems to be increasing because I have a clear sense of direction in my life, I am accomplishing important goals, I’m satisfied overall with my way of handling major life crises, I’m pleased with my personal growth and development, and I rarely feel that I have been cheated or disappointed by life.
