wow, this article basically denies the root of narcissistic rage and a lot of the things that make pathological N behavior so malignant and damaging. I really suggest that the writer do some research before posting "facts" about the "myths" of NPD.

Number 2 and number 4 are inaccurate. Number 4 - EVERYBODY requires a healthy level of narcissism in life or they never protect themselves. A little narcissism is not just healthy, it's a necessity. Number 2 - the false self is a replacement for the real self which the narcissist sees as "damaged goods" due to their extremely underlying insecurities, which have led to the development of their pathological behaviour.

Mark, take all of that away and what are you? Let me guess, a happy, respectful person who treats everyone lesser than he as equals.

I can see right through you, even online.

So let's see here... I'm good looking, have a hot girlfrend, made $450,000 last year and am well-liked in the community, have a large circle of friends, etc. I made it to where I am with intelligence, hard work, motivation and an engaging personality... and surpassing everyone else along the way. I am quick-witted, have great sense of humour, and am the life of the party. Yes I *know* that I am better than the most people in many ways, and no one can change my thoughts on that, but I wouldn't dare treat anyone negatively or betlittle them, or demonstrate feelings of grandiosity. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I don't understand how this is a disorder. There is nothing wrong with me.

Interested in a narcisistic man what should I do? Some times he scares me but I do love him.

To all the people who supposedly suffer because they live with these 'narcissists': would you quit complaining and find someone who'll actually treat you nicely? If you accept abuse from others you're at least partly to blame.

This really sounds like psychobabble to me: it's nothing more than subjective interpretation of behaviour labeled with impressive sounding names (usually of Greek or Latin origin) that don't really explain anything. Basically psychology found out what the Greeks already knew thousands of years ago: some people just can't get over themselves... Congrats. I guess you must a narcissist (i.e think very highly of yourself and constantly judge others) in order to become a psychology major: who else would think it's an actual science? If you'll excuse me I'll go study something that's actually of benefit to society. Feel free to label me based on nothing (e.g disagreement with my views) in the meantime.

PS: I have a hypothesis about this so called 'narcissism epidemic" (gosh, I do hope not too many people have died). Could it be due to a significant rise in intrest in and by psychology?

If they don't have insecurity issues why do they react so badly to criticism? The one I know gets SO angry he refuses to listen.
