Concussion's Effects May Linger for Decades

I've had three serious concussions in the past year playing soccer and as I kept getting them the symtoms got worse and lasted longer. I've noticed a huge decline in my short-term memory ability and I'm always forgetting appointments. I've always been kinda scatter-brained but it has definitely gotten worse. Now I get headaches almost everyday and my balance is shot as I'm permanently dizzy. The college I'm at uses the IMPACT software to help diagnose and clear recovering athletes and it's a great system.

I had three serious concussions between the ages of 13 and 16. Ever since then I noticed my reading comprehension skills were very poor. I dont know if there is any correlation between the two but I always wondered if it was due to the concussions or was I just not good at reading comprehension?

I suffered a concussion on Oct 9 2009 and it is now Jan 19. Still to this day i suffer memory lose. I had a high 3 concussion when it was totally my fault. I was on kick return and me and this other football player collided 3 times and the 2nd time wrung my bell but i continued to play. After the 3rd hit i was barely able to walk of the field but i did and i sat on the bench. I was taken to the field house and from there, to the hospital. I stayed all night.

You need to be careful about concussions because they are serious and they can hurt you really bad. Be smart (unlike me).

I got a concussion this summer wakeboarding and since then my grades have went down drastically, i am always tired, and i forget things all the time. i also have confusion and rapid mood changes. Im kinda worried but i didnt realize that concussions had long term effects.

I thought you and your community might be interested in a clinical research study now enrolling people with a past head injury who feel sleepy during the day. This study is going on at various centers around the US; go to this website for more information: http://www.headsleepstudy.com/.

My husband had 2 concussions in his life and is now 49 and has memory loss. I don't think he ever played sports but was an avid drinker in his early days and had two serious wrecks. He has scars that are very visible on his head, i'm not even sure he went to the doctor, the cops put him in jail immediately. I started noticing memory problems about 2 years ago and have tried to get him to go seek treatment, but he will not at this point. Maybe this article may help me with my quest.

It should be obvious that the same applies to our young women and men serving in the military. Take note, Veterans Administration!
