I am 71 and had mild shingles in July 2010. It radiated from a place on my spine that has always itched. I had little pain, and itching was not overly bothersome and subsided in a month or so (except for the spot I had before the shingles.) In February 2011 I suffered a TIA (headache and vision impaired) for about an hour and a half. I have few characteristics that would indicate I was a candidate for a stroke so I have been bewildered. This may be the answer. Now the question is what do I do to prevent another TIA or even a stroke. I take aspirin but was doing so before the TIA. My doctor has added Crestor (I had a liver problem with Lipitor and fear I may have it with Crestor) although my cloresterol is not too bad (HLD 85 and LDL 117 with Omega 3) but I do not have plaque and my blood pressure is normal.

Rich, my smypathy to you. My wife has experienced severe shingles a couple years ago. Involved head, and eye --has since had issues with legs, nerves, etc. Did at any time you have advice to get the shingles vacine and did she get it?

Thank you.

Rich,

Sorry to hear about your mother...I'm sure it was very hard on your family.

How old was she when she began having shingles and her age when she passed?

My mother had a stroke two years ago, and also had severe shingles around the eye and facial area for over 10 years. She died last year from a heart attack, but we were never sure of the ubderlying cause.
