Meditation on the word of God (the Bible) is thousands of times better than transcendental meditation because it helps you know the REAL God---which is NOT YOU!!!!! It's the Word who became flesh, Jesus, the Messiah!

I'm surprised to see such unquestioning acceptance of TM researchers claims. Tm researchers have a long history of bias (this particular study being done by TM university members and hardcore TM advocates), exaggeration and outright deception. The above-mentioned studies use controls we know will not give objective, but distorted results.
Don't journalists care any more about separating the chaff from the wheat? Or do you just print whatever press releases you receive without any investigation? That surely seems to be the case here. Very sad--esp. given the long history this organization has of this very same thing (pushing poor or bogus research)!

It's true that the trials need to be be better designed to prove that it's the meditation that 's producing the results and not just the rest.
I have been using meditation and other Yoga technique to reduce my blood pressure. It works. One day I decided to see if just lying on the couch without trying to meditate had the same results. This actually lowered my blood pressure considerably more.
The most dramatic reduction in blood pressure happens when I simply take a hot shower.
Future test must test meditation vs. just lying on the couch, which seems to produce better results for me.

Richard Davidson is wrong saying that people should find "a particular style [of meditation] they're comfortable with". No, no, no! Not beeing "comfortable with" is the criteria but how effective the chosen technique is.
Meditation techniques do NOT have all the same effects. Some do not have any effects at all, others can have effects in the negative direction.
Instead of saying "chose what you like" it is more intelligent to say: "Chose what is scientifically proven as an effective technique."
The best proven technique is known as Transcendental Meditation (more than 600 studies, over 200 of them peer-reviewed).

Regarding your recent article on meditation, I thought the Trip Glasses might fit well into a piece on mental health, consumer technology, or a holiday gift guide. I'd like to send you a pair to review. Please feel free to forward this, if you feel it would be more appropriate for another editor.
The Trip Glasses™, are a sound-and-light machine that eases meditation and more fun for those resistant to meditation. The Trip Glasses, based on the science on entrainment, synchronize the user’s brainwaves to the frequency of meditation, helping them to achieve the state of meditation and hopefully, helping them access the metal health benefits associated with meditation. Users also often report experiencing entertaining, mild hallucinations of color and unique patterns, as a positive side effect.
The Trip Glasses are made by Cornfield Electronics™, a San Francisco-based electronics company dedicated to building products that enable people to make their lives easier, to make a statement, and to have fun.
Mitch Altman, CEO of Cornfield Electronics, is also a well-respected pioneer in Virtual Reality and computer software technology. He is a popular speaker, traveling worldwide to provide workshops and talks that engage people’s creativity, help them learn about electronics, and reduce the ‘noise’ that sometimes crowds out peace of mind. He is involved in Mental Health Month and the TV Turn Off campaign, and affiliated with the Healthy San Francisco program.
