Acupuncture for Dogs? Holistic Vets Swear by It

I just love it (sarcastically) when people shilling for allopathic medicine talk about "there's no evidence", "it's all subjective" and best of all, it's just a marketing device (holistic medicine). What exactly about allopathic medicine is NOT a marketing device?

Dr. Dean Edell is in one of the documentaries about the Gerson therapy for cancer, and despite what may be his valid concerns (none, in my opinion)--he finishes his interview with the same tired trope: They're making money off of it so it isn't trustworthy. Then a few days later I was in a CVS drugstore, and spotted a whole separate stand of reader glasses, with none other than Dr. Dean Edell on the MARKETING photo, talking about how great his product is. He's a one person marketing device, as are many allopathic doctors. For cancer? Chemo, surgery and radiation. That's it, no studies on anything else because that's where the money is. Allopathic doctors are trained from the beginning to blindly do what pharmaceutical and the medical industry wants them to do, and that's what they do and nothing else. Obviously there will BE NO ALTERNATIVE that actually "works" for them, because that's the company line. Nuts to that.

I have a 6yr. Choc Lb/Rtr. he suffers from anxiety? and is currently being treated with hypertension blood pressure meds..I do not want to continue meds..they have reccommended "thundershirt"? Which I know works on some dogs..However, I myself have had accupuntcure, and am inquiring on whether my dog would benefit from this as well? Thanks. Shirley Watkins.

I have a 3 year old Shih Tzu and he (was) a very very hyper active happy dog. 3 weeks ago he started becoming lethargic so we took him to the vet. Initial diagnosis was depression (we had been gone a lot recently). I left to go to St. Louis for 4 days and by the time I got home it was clear it wasn't depression as he could no longer use his back legs.

Back to the vet to confirm that he was having problems with his spine. So, a shot of cortizone, steroids and pain meds for 10 days and he continued to get worse/show no improvement. They told me my next option was surgery (with no guarantee) at a cost of $3,000 - $5,000.

Muy had his first acupuncture treatment today and while he is a long way from being healed, I was astounded by how well he responded to the treatment both during the procedure and after. He is more alert and seems to be in less pain. In addition he made efforts towards using his back legs tonight and just yesterday they were immobile.

I realize it is still a little early to sing the praises of acupuncture (and other holistic remedies), I believe in those things for myself and as a result I'm am optimistic about what it can do for my dog.

He is getting a session every day for 5 days. I'll post results for those that may be interested.

1 yr ago, my 12 yr old dog had a malignate turmer removed from her throat. At the same time, she was facing two knee surguries for her ACL's and she had severe arthritis in her lower back. At this time, I was carrying her everywhere as she could barely walk. Because of the cancer, I decided not to do knee surgury or chemotherapy and there wasn't much we could do for her arthritis. A friend told me about acupunture for dogs. I found a wonderful vet that began treatments. Within 2 weeks, my dog was walking and within a few months, running. The cancer has not come back and she is continues to be active. We see the acupunturist once a month and my dog is doing great.
