I AM A PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGOY, THERE IS A TRMENDOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY TO GET YOU TO BUY WHAT YOU DO NOT WANT OR NEED. A MARKET PUTS FOOD THAT YOU NEED IN THE BACK OF THE MARKET,THEREBY FORCING YOU TO PASS IN FRONT OF THE UNNEEDED FOOD. EYELEVEL FOOD IS THE HIGHIST PRICE FOOD. THE FOOD COMPANY HAS TO PAY THE MOST FOR THIS . LOOK AT THE CHECK OUT COUNTER. YOU HAVE 3 HUNGERY CHILDREN . LOOKING AT THE CANDY .THE PARENTS ARE LOOKING AT THE MAGAZINES AND YOU'R STUCK FOR TEN MINUTES. I WAS CAUGHT IN A MARKET THAT MADE YOU WALK UP EVERY AISLE IN ORDER TO GET OUT

"The Road to Wellville" was written by T.C. Boyle. It was made into a movie starring Matthew Broderick but like so many, it was a poor adaptation that buried most of the major points.

Why do people vilify sugar? We'd die without sugar. It's the only food our brains understand. The problem isn't sugar (even refined white sugar which is basically the same thing as honey--both are nearly entirely sucrose) the problem is lack of exercise. The problem is substituting sugar and and fat laden foods for exercise. Turn off the TV and get your kids outside. That's more important than anything you can do with diet. Our kids are not starving. They don't have to eat salads and brown rice for every meal. What they need to do is eat a reasonable and balanced diet, which can easily include a few sugar laden foods, and then get enough exercise to burn off those calories.

Obesity is caused by soft drinks served in buckets (kids should drink water at every meal and leave the soda and "juice" for the fat people) and lack of exercise. (OK, a lot of people eat way too much sugar and all those sugar euphemisms like "high fructose corn syrup," dried cane juice, HONEY, fruit juice, etc.) Remember that any fruit juice is "unnatural" whereas whole fruit is fruit the way Nature intended.

Calories in and calories out. Some sugar in the diet is OK if balanced with exercise and a bit of toothbrushing. Just teach your kids that sugar is a condiment not the main course.

Calories are one of the few commodities the U.S. produces in abundance any more. So is it any wonder that so many of us are fat? The pressure on Americans to eat, eat, eat to boost our economy is enormous. We are rarely advised to eat less, only to exercise more to burn off the calories we've already consumed. When you're eating to prop up your country's economy as well as for yourself, that's a prescription for obesity and poor health.

The road to Wellsville. I am unsure of the author, but it is the book that has made me belly laugh the most out of my recent reads. A lot of information is based in fact and I am sure a lot of it is fictional. It's the story of Post versus Kellogg and their race to dominate the healthy breakfast scene.

"hash browns and greens and oranges" -potatoes, sweet potatoes, kale, onion, garlic, carrots all shredded and lightly fried in olive oil take the place of hash browns in our kitchen. Fresh fruit and yogurt is a family favorite. Mediterranean tofu scramble gets the protein levels up. A standard breakfast oatmeal includes cardamon, vanilla, chopped dried bananas, chopped pecans, cinnamon, chopped dates and fresh fruit topped with a small amount of cream.

This is actually helpful,

because breakfast can be a boring

rushed meal, and variety is ABSOLUTELY

necessary to keep kids interest in

something other than the highly advertised,

cheaper to make, sugar coated cereals.

Also, fiber delays the blood sugar rise,

keeping metabolism stable,when eating a

sweet cereal or treat. Eating more veggies is

essential as TigofTex,states. However it's

hard to motivate kids with that @ breakfast.

You are what you eat.

I don't need the internet to tell me that. But thanks for the tips anyways.
