The Zero-Calorie Sweetener Stevia Arrives

So Stevia might cause cancer is what is being said. Good, the FDA was correct in denying it's use in foods. Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, etc are among the leading causes of Cardiovascular disease in America (If not the world). HFCS should be taken off the market in my opinion. But even with the concern that too much Stevia may cause cancer, if not processed into a super potent sweetener there is virtually no risk of these side effects.

So point in case, grow Stevia yourself in your garden. A) You are growing it so no worries about pesticides, etc. B) It's not processed or refined into a caner giving sweetener C) You can brew it with teas and drinks, it's easy to do! I wrote about Stevia in the Garden on my blog if anyone is interested - http://gardenoftomorrow.com/stevia/stevia-the-all-natural-sugar-free-sweetener-234/.

I have to say though, I am glad Stevia is not approved by the FDA for use in foods, because then everyone and their mother would be baking with it, it would be put in sodas, cakes, chips, dips, cereal....you would not be able to get away from it. Try buying any processed foods without corn, wheat or HFCS - nearly impossible. If Stevia is approved it would be in everything too. Besides, it's better to grow, harvest bake into foods yourself.

After learning how nutra sweet got on the market, and I did a lot of research! How do you trust the FDA? Artificial Sweetners have been linked to more than 90 illnesses and side effects. It WAS proven before it was put on the market it did cause cancer, but do to politics it still made it on the market? I don't wont to consume something else just to find out I need to de-tox from it too!

How does Stevia rate in the use for diabetic diets? I grow the plant with my herbs and have been using caution until I know for sure. Thanks

All stevia products not equal

Adam, your article is misleading. Stevia under the Sweetleaf brand is extract from the stevia plant and purely natural and safe. It has been used in it's native Paraquay for thousands of years. The products made by the Big Corporations are chemical imposters and another attempt by the Global Elite to poison and control us. Wake up world! The Creator gave us this beautiful planet to feed us. Corporations and the Government... it's not nice to fool Mother Nature.

Dean of VA

I agree with Dean. Not all Stevia products are equal. Even Stivia in the raw has an additional ingredient, but very minuscule. It is dextrose, made from corn which as explained in its web site, is used to separate it more easily for distribution. See Stiviaintheraw.com.

In any other case, Stivia is far safer than most of the sugar sweeteners out today in any of its forms. I highly recommend that people do not consume High fructose corn syrup (HFCS)products, aspartame, or use Equal or Splenda. The long term use of these products can be harmful. Additionally HFCS tricks the body by storing the sugars, ruining the liver, and causes you to crave even more. I have found that the less you eat, the less you want.

Also the FDA is never to be trusted. It is all about the money, and they don't care if you get sick, because it just gives doctors and pharmacists business. Unfortunately that is how it seems to be these days. Money is truly the "root of all evil". Especially when people get sick and die so that someone can get paid well for it.

Folks, be aware about what you eat and drink. Read the labels and ingredients. Basically, if you don't know what it is, don't consume it.

BTW- soda was meant to be a casual drink for pleasure. Not for every other hour, on a daily basis thing. Switch to tea. It is healthier for you, full of antioxidants, and you get to choose what kind of sweeter to use as well !

Good health to all !

I had heard that Coke was coming out with a Diet Coke w/Stevia in 2009. Is this true? I haven't seen or heard anymore about it. If so, please let me know.

Thanks

STEVIA is awesome!! I am a 65 year old grandma in Alabama. My grandson-when he was 7 years old, use to pull the leaves off my stevia plants that I got from Walmart Garden shop. He would chew the leaves for the taste, then split out the used leaves.

I have used STEVIA(pure)for years, but I got it from the Health food stores. WALMART SOLD IT TEMPORILY,BUT THEY DON'T NOW BECAUSE OF THE FDA, THE FDA IS ON THE TAKE!! There were pay offs starting years back. There was an article on the internet years ago, Naming Names-HIGH GOVERNMENT OFFICALS- because of pay-offs to keep the damage done by ASPARTANE from getting out.

Through the FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT it was brought out that NUTURA SWEET was KEEPING STEVIA OFF THE MARKET-- saying it was dangerous, AN OUTRIGHT LIE!! A Scientist was murdered to keep information about the danger of this aweful Aspartane from being exposed-- THe test monkeys DIED!!!!!

Factions of the FDA, as with some other government agencies can be corrupt, unless light is exposed on them.

THEY WORK FOR US!! Sound the alarm AND MAKE THEM ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PEOPLE.

I have friends that got CANCER , because of ASPARTANE.and all these blood alcohol stuff an be crap to, some are better than others.WE DESERVE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE ACCESS TO STEVIA (THE PURE STUFF) THOUGH OUR LOCAL GROCERY STORES. Let your voice be heard!
