4 Ways a Food Diary Can Help You Lose Weight

I completely agree, tracking the foods I eat has helped me lose over 40 pounds while at the same time improving my overall well being.

I personally use an online diary (www.foodsdatabase.com) to log my foods. Being able to track my vitamins and minerals is a big plus...I didn't realize how little my intake was for a lot of vitamins.

Frankly, tracking foods is boring. But if you can find the right tool, the job becomes very manageable, and enlightening!

I've been using a diary on my iPod Touch and have lost 10 lbs so far. I did some research and set my calorie limit to loose about a pound a week. My loss is right on target. Keeping track on my iPod allows me to enter the data right at meal time which helps keep me honest. For me, a little bit of data entry at meal time is better than entering everything when I get to the computer at the end of the day.

The app I use shows nutritional content for foods. So I can lookup before I eat and make better choices--do I want to offset 30 min. on the bike with those cookies? Seeing the nutritional content is enabling me to focus beyond calories such as reducing salt. I use Absolute Fitness.

- Frankly, it's fun to be able to use my Touch as a hand held computer.

The app I use is Absolute Fitness. And yes, I am just a customer.h

It's true, the food journal/diary/notebook works. Once you actually see what you eat in a day you begin to realize that it may be a bit much and you start to scale back here and there. Once the scaling back starts to happen, you notice that you have a bit more energy or you're feeling a bit more refreshed and not so sleepy at 3:00 in the afternoon. If you want to eat a large pizza, a box of oreos, and a 6 pack of soda go ahead BUT write it down everytime you do it and watch the pounds keep rising on the scale and your health decline. Eat a large salad, a 100 calorie snack pack and drink some water and watch the pounds go down and your health improve. It's up to you but unless you try, you have no excuse!
